Clinging to the ramparts protecting this village for centuries, now listed in the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of France’ directory, the ‘Maison du Sénéchal’ stands proudly on the heights overlooking the Cèze which flows below.
Recently fitted out and redecorated with love and care, it is sold in all its splendour, furnished and equipped.
Built on three levels, it offers approximately 165 m² of living space.
From the terrace forming the entrance to the property, on the garden level, there is an independent studio with bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, which could be rented seasonally.
Then, on the ground floor, with access from the kitchen, a terrace sheltered by a pergola draped in wisteria offers the summer dining room with a splendid view of the river below.
Afterwards, we discover a magnificent living room of almost 40 m2 with a ceiling height of 5.50 m. The monumental fireplace, as well as the mullioned windows overlooking the river, bear witness to the historical importance represented by the inhabitant of the place, the ‘Sénéchal’, Officer of the Lord of Montclus in past centuries.
On this same level there are two bedrooms, two separate shower rooms with WC as well as the kitchen opening onto the terrace.
Upstairs, there is a beautiful bedroom opening onto the mezzanine overlooking the living room, plus a wardrobe.
Finally, the magnificent roof terrace of 54 m², including 34 m² covered. Recently fitted out with comfortable lounges for relaxing in the shade, a pizza oven, a monumental table for dining in the open air in the evening, to the cries of swallows and the sound of the water of the Cèze below.
And just for stargazing and dreaming ….
A unique place to share a panorama, in complete serenity, of the neighbouring hills protecting the beautiful Cèze river, guardian of their age-old secrets in a fairy tale village.
This imposing property and this unique, timeless, village deserve a few words of history…
Mon Clos, a picturesque village whose origins date back to ancient times, is situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking a meander in the River Cèze.
Traces of fishing tribes and a fish drying plant dating from the Mesolithic period have been found here, dating back some 5,000 years.
In the 13th century, the castle and its keep were built here, and it became an important seigneury at the time.
Then, in the 17th century, the monks of the abbey of Mons Serratus built a hospital and the village took on its present-day architecture, with its high houses, squeezed into the shelter of the ramparts, and its steep, winding streets.
Having survived the centuries to the present day, the village that became Montclus is now listed by Bâtiments de France as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
