This imposing property and this unique, timeless, village deserve a few words of history…
Mon Clos, a picturesque village whose origins date back to ancient times, is situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking a meander in the River Cèze.
Traces of fishing tribes and a fish drying plant dating from the Mesolithic period have been found here, dating back some 5,000 years.
In the 13th century, the castle and its keep were built here, and it became an important seigneury at the time.
Then, in the 17th century, the monks of the abbey of Mons Serratus built a hospital and the village took on its present-day architecture, with its high houses, squeezed into the shelter of the ramparts, and its steep, winding streets.
Having survived the centuries to the present day, the village that became Montclus is now listed by Bâtiments de France as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
